The homeowners are very certain that they don’t want the house to remain in a state of “just finished.” Rather than pursuing a particularly strong sense of design, they care more about whether it will truly feel comfortable to live in over time. Whether it feels natural and relaxing to come home after work. Whether staying there for long weekends feels tiring. And whether, after several years of real life filling the space, it can still maintain a state of “just right.”  This time, we didn’t rush to fill the space. Many relationships within it have been loosened. The colors and materials in the space maintain a sense of proximity, so even as the traces of daily life accumulate, the overall atmosphere won’t easily become chaotic. Different areas retain a certain openness, and not every use has been predetermined. Because once a space is defined too rigidly, it becomes difficult for life to truly enter it.  The furniture hasn’t been completely fixed either. Some people naturally work at the dining table, while others prefer to spend long hours in the living room. Life changes, and so does the space. A home that endures over time, even as it undergoes constant change, will never feel exhausting.
